Do you, as an Air Force Pharmacist or Technician have a family member who has been accepted in an accredited college of pharmacy?
If so, this blog posting is just for you!
In November, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation accepted the Colonel Jerry W. Ross Scholarship for administration, and would like to award its first scholarship in April 2009.
Below is listed the eligibility guidelines. Qualified CJWRS scholars are pre-screened by an Air Force selection committee. These pre-screened applicants then meet the APhA Foundation Selection Committee for final award. The major factors in selection are the applicant's demonstrated alignment with the Air Force Core Values of Integrity, Service before Self, and Excellence.
Please don't let these eligibility requirements scare you away if you meet the majority of them. We want you to apply! The firm deadline is 31 Dec 2008, and supporting documents can be faxed, emailed, or snail mailed. Completing pages 3-4 of the attached document is your first step to being considered for the first Colonel Jerry W. Ross Scholarship recipient!
Don't let anything hold you up, i.e. references....send your package in ASAP and all your corresponding documents to follow will be assembled.
To apply for a CJWRS, the applicant must meet the following general eligibility guidelines:
* Be an Air Force Pharmacy Technician accepted to an accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in a college of pharmacy pursuing a degree in pharmacy.
* Be a family member of an Air Force Pharmacist or Technician and accepted in an accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in a college of pharmacy pursing a degree in pharmacy.
* Have demonstrated Air Force Core Values of Integrity, Service before Self, and Excellence.
* Be a member in the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).
* Earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent grading system) in required pharmacy courses.
* Submit a letter from the college registrar or designee verifying the applicant's current GPA.
* Submit an essay of up to 500 words addressing the following topic: "How do you plan to use your experiences as a student pharmacist to create a positive change in pharmacy practice?"

The letter of reference from the non-academic source should address the applicant's strengths in areas not involving academics or APhA-ASP involvement.
* Submit a current resume or CV.
* Submit a listing of pharmacy and non-pharmacy related activities that demonstrate the applicant's community involvement and leadership skills. Please note activities for which academic credit was received.
